1-1/3 cup ground nuts (walnuts or almonds)
2 cups sifted flour
2/3 cup sugar
cup sugar
teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
2 egg yolks, unbeaten (save the egg whites in separate bowl)
tsp. almond extract
1 cup (6oz.) butterscotch morsels
Combine cup nuts with the cup of sugar and set aside.
Mix remaining ground nuts with the flour, 2/3 cup sugar, and salt.
Cut in the butter.
Add egg yolks and almond extract. Mix well.
Stir in the butterscotch morsels. Mixture will be stiff.
Divide into 12 portions.
Roll each on floured surface into 12 rolls.
Place 6 of the rolls side by side and brush with slightly beaten egg whites.
Sprinkle with of the nut and sugar mixture.
Repeat with remaining 6 rolls.
Then cut across all the rolls at 1-1/2 intervals.
Separate the pieces and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 14-18 minutes.
